We are completing the portraits of the dachshunds of the house — of today, and of the years before. No name will appear beside an image until the identity is verified.
Each profile will bring together life at home, pedigree, documented facts and results — without filling in what we do not know.

A day in this house.
It begins in the kitchen, where the litters are born and the puppies grow up — in the middle of the family’s ordinary morning, underfoot while the day starts around them.
Then the garden, and the field beyond it. These are hunting dogs by descent: they need ground to explore, to dig, to run — and here that need is part of the day, not a treat. The old advice of the house is blunt about it: a dachshund kept only for the sofa gains weight and invents guard duties.
Evening gathers everyone back into the house — puppies, champions, seniors, together. It is an old habit of the family: Gabriel grew up beside the dachshund Jacqueline, who let no stranger near him.
The ring takes a handful of days a year. This is the rest of it.

There are not many dogs in this house, and that changes what it is possible to know. A character is watched from its first weeks — the puppy that holds its ground, the one that looks first and moves second. The house’s own telling keeps that register, dog by dog, name by name; it still tells how Vanhelsing, between rings, would be asleep belly-up in somebody’s arms within the minute.
The dogs that built the house grow old in it. In the photographs the older dogs keep their own row — still present, still part of the day.
Across its history the house has bred and shown the wirehaired variety in all three sizes — standard, nano and kaninchen. Three sizes, one type: the same coat, the same back, the same certainty at three weights. Of Briatore, the telling keeps one line: «un vero bassotto standard in un corpo da kaninchen» — a true standard dachshund in a kaninchen body.
